This is reflected in the chassis number '5005'.This Marcos 1500 GT has a characteristic wooden chassis consisting of more than 200 individual composite pieces, contributing to its amazingly low weight of just 740 kg. This form of construction had originated in the aircraft industry, strong and super light! Under the bonnet is a powerful 1499cc 4-cylinder Ford Kent engine with two Stromberg carburettors, delivering a whopping 85hp. The 4-speed manual transmission provides an exhilarating driving experience, with the Marcos shifting smoothly and performing well.Besides its rarity, this Marcos stands out with its grey metallic paint, which gives it a timeless look and class. The aluminium 13-inch alloy wheels, sunroof and black carpets add style to its overall aesthetic. In fact, people were only impressed by its bold construction. A car consisting of a self-supporting plywood chassis with gull-wing doors, motorbike front mudguards à la Lotus Seven and then a four-piece windscreen consisting of part glass and part perspex could not possibly be seen as a serious contender for car manufacturer status, even in those days! Only a few saw more in it. Of the GT models, there first existed the version with the B18 engine from the Volvo P1800. Then, in 1966, the GT was replaced by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder Ford Kent engine to cut costs, as the 1800 was too expensive to market.
